Earlier this month, it was Pancake Day or Shrove Tuesday. What does the word shrove actually mean? Answer to last week’s question: Nora Jones is the daughter of Ravi Shankar, the famous sitar player. The winner was Jayne Bacon – well done!

Not something I’m ever likely to worry about!

I might actually know this one..I think! It is something to do with getting rid of stuff, like to cast things away. I used to that it was when you stick all those random things that have been sitting at the back of the food cupboard into a pancake and then pour lots of sugar or syrup over it! i.e getting rid of stuff. but I think it is more to do with getting rid of your sins though! Then again i might be wrong 🙁

I have to back up Alex on this one…when one has been “shriven”, one has been purified of one’s sins. So, presumably “Shrove Tuesday” is some sort of anti-Mardi Gras during which you wipe Ye Olde Slate clean. Or something. |
