Yes, last Thursday, Yayi Boni was officially invested as president of Benin at a ceremony in Porto Novo, the country´s capital.  For more details, have a look at his website, which is excellent:

www.yayiboni.com

His motto for the elections was:

Ca peut changer

Ca doit changer

Ca va changer

So we now await the aforesaid change and will see what that entails.

Other news…

Rob has 4 days left of his course and tonnes more work to do before then.  Don´t forget Good Friday at the Woods, if you´re free drop in from 8:00.

Still no photos - sorry about that.  I did try, but for some reason they wouldn´t go on the site.  Should be possible when I get back to Benin (ironic that!)

Thanks for visiting.  Do leave a comment if you have time…

Dear Robert,
It was brilliant to receive your “star” postcard from Frankfurt. I can tell from your website that you enjoyed your stay there. Your German was almost ‘spot on.’ Hope you gained a lot from your course and you arrive safely back in Benin where you are no doubt doing some great stuff with your inspirational musical talents.
I’m still enjoying teaching at BGS and trying to keep all activities going despite all the “health and safety” restrictions flying around these days. As you will know, I had a “crisis time” at the end of 2004, and I was overwhelmed by the amount of support I received. This certainly helped me through this stressful period and made me determined to keep on keeping on!
I trust you are in good spirits and still have a smile on your face. I will never forgot the Rob Baker sense of humour–it was unique!
Very best wishes from RWA at BGS
Alles Gute, Meilleurs Voeux!

Dear Mr Anderson,

Wonderful to hear from you. I didn’t know about the ‘crisis time’ but it sounds like you’re doing better now, which is good to hear. I doubt I would have become a languages teacher had it not been for your inspiration, and I still feel that many of my teaching techniques come from what I experienced in your class (quick fire questions, 10 question ‘petit tests’ and – of course – plenty of role-plays!)

It was good to practise my Deutsch in Germany, which I have not used for quite a while. Alas, it is not up to my French standard, but DEDG did do a good job with all those case endings!

It’s good to be back in the African sun after all that cold weather, although the heat can be unbearable at times. We’re back in the UK in the summer for a visit, so you never know, I may drop in!

The music here is fascinating and I really enjoy working with local choirs. The course in Germany was very helpful and the leader was trying to persuade me to do a PhD based on research out here in Benin. Not sure yet, it’s a bit of a huge step…

Must fly. Thank you so much for leaving a message. I hope you find this one okay.

All the best,

Rob Baker

Hi Rachel,

Yes, Friday was a brilliantly mindblowingly fun evening. I still can’t believe I was there in Ampthill for just one day. Now I’m back in 30 degrees C with the family!

c u in June!
